Established in 1990, this group of state-certified police officers and civilian support personnel carry out the rewarding mission of "ensuring the safety of the traveling public in the Charleston County Airport District." The Department’s jurisdiction includes the county’s three primary airports: Charleston International (CHS), Charleston Executive Airport (JZI), and Mount Pleasant Regional Airport (LRO).
It is the job of the Aviation Authority Police Department to investigate all reported crimes and emergencies within its jurisdiction and to support civilian aviation by enforcing federal air regulations and state/local laws. In addition, the department providesa variety of services, including traffic services and accident investigation, emergency communications, patrol operations, investigations, aviation security and dignitary protection.
