Bike Patrol

The Charleston County Aviation Authority Police Department incorporates bike patrols as an element within its daily operations. The bike patrols provide an enhanced level of security and customer service at the airport. The officers work mainly in the terminal facilities and parking lots. Officers assigned to bike patrol provide a very mobile and flexible response capability to access areas not readily available with a patrol car. One third of the Department sworn staff is trained for bike patrols. Officers selected to participate are in excellent physical condition and have strong customer service skills.

Bike Patrol Officers perform the same duties and responsibilities as other patrol officers. The enhanced response capabilities to emergency or service calls have greatly increased the Department’s effectiveness in crime prevention, detection, and customer service. All Bike Officers are certified through the Law Enforcement Bicycle Association (LEBA). Sgt. Rodney Thomason heads the Aviation Authority Police Department Bike Patrol Unit. Please contact Sgt. Thomason with any questions pertaining to the Bike Patrol Unit at 843 767-1100 or via e-mail at RThomason@chs-airport.com.
